Do You Twitter?

Wil Wheaton does.

What’s it all about? Dave Winer gives his take.

Another Coooool Video

This is a classic…a favorite song, a favorite video.

Time for a New PDA

I’m no technophobe, but per my first post, I sometimes stay comfortably behind the times. I’ve been using my ten-year-old PalmPilot—a USRobotics, pre-3Com model, no less, that runs on AAAs. But the digitizer has been flaky since it took a nasty fall, and now for some reason it’s gobbling batteries. I’ve lost a couple of things when the batteries conked out before I could HotSync it. Time to think about a replacement.

Amy loves the Treo 650 I gave her in ’05, and I’d like to combine my phone and PDA (especially if it takes me away from Cincinnati Bell and their hosing of a monthly fee). But my big, clunky fingers aren’t so great with those tiny keys. And I don’t know if I’d take advantage of the Internet connectivity: while incredibly cool, it’s also exasperating looking at that tiny screen and waiting on that slow connection. (We’re so spoiled.)

Then there’s the iPhone. Dave Winer says at this point it’s just “a beautifully designed, colorful, very stylish, cell phone.” I use my cell so little it doesn’t have to be beautiful. Cheap is OK. And I don’t want to pay for smallish iPod functionality, since I’ve already got the Big Bertha—the 5th-gen 80 GB—and haven’t minded toting it separately.

The PDA part is key. The Palm OS is good, although it’s starting to look frayed around the edges, kind of like the Mac OS did before OS X came along. There has to be good software on the desktop, too, and again the Palm Desktop is OK, if dated. I’ve considered getting one of those super-cheap Palm Z22s, which would do little more than replace my old PDA, but I’d really like that cell capability.

So, any ideas? Let me know!

Coooool Video

I don’t see many music videos that turn my crank. I like this one!

Bat For Lashes: What’s a Girl to Do

hello, world

Eek.

Now I’ve done it.

A blog.

Someone—Mark Twain or Will Rogers, most likely Rogers given how often Twain is misquoted—said everything happens ten years later in Cincinnati.

Perhaps that explains why I’m over ten years late to the party?

Years ago I considered a DIY blog—just handmade HTML. Hell, if Jenni used pico to build her site, surely I could have used SimpleText or BBEdit or Notepad or HomeSite for my modest needs.

Well, I never did.

True, in 1995 I had my obligatory wow-the-Web-is-so-cool home page: a bio, some pages about my band, links to other sites. The content wasn’t up more than two years. After that the page was just a placeholder.

So why, in 2007, am I doing this?

I’m not entirely sure. Maybe because Amy is giving it a try. Maybe because I want to see what this Vox thing can do. Maybe because, at long long last, I want a more powerful tool than e-mail to keep in touch with people.

Further meditation on that is, I suspect, impending.

In the meantime, welcome.
